Why and How to Choose Your Perfect Recliner

What to Think About Before Choosing Your Perfect Recliner

Recliners make great additions to any living room. They are useful, comfortable, and very stylish. There are several reasons why having a recliner makes a great addition to your home:

Why a Recliner?

  • They are great pieces of furniture for relaxing, lounging, and napping.
  • They are easy to use. With the touch of a button or lever, you can recline the back or bring up the foot rest.
  • They provide exceptional lumbar support and neck support
  • They are great for people with medical and/or physical conditions because they are supportive, easy to operate, and useful.

So you're thinking about purchasing a new recliner? There are a few points to consider before doing so including style, your current living room and space restraints, and types. Read on to discover what you should look for before you buy.

Your Style

First consider your own personal style in furniture. Do you prefer a warm and cozy look, something more modern, traditional styling, or do you just go for the comfort effect? Is there a particular fabric that most interests you such as leather or polyester? Thinking about these style types will assure that you know just what you are looking for when browsing a large amount of recliners.

Recliners do come in a wide range of colors and fabrics, so choose one that matches your style as closely as possible. Maintaining a theme between your new recliner and your existing furniture will help to bring the room together and create a beautiful unified look.

Your Living Room

Another very important factor to consider when purchasing a recliner is the room it will be going in. You will want to evaluate factors such as space, themes, and your current furniture.

First, is your living room large enough to accommodate a recliner? Is the area in which you want to place the recliner large enough? You must make sure you leave adequate space for the recliner so when it is reclined it doesn't hit the walls or stick out to far into the room. As a rule, it is best to leave up to three feet from the wall for your recliner. That way when it does recline, the motion will not be impeded by the wall. Some recliners will slide downward so that the majority of the space is taken up from in front of the recliner, where the foot rest moves out into the room. Make sure you read the spec sheet for the recliner before you purchase.

Secondly, think about the current them in your living room. You want to make sure you choose a recliner that will match the current design and furniture in your room. Also make sure you choose the appropriate colors to accent the other furniture in the room. It is best to get a recliner of a different color to accent the other furniture.

Types

There several types of recliners available today for just about any need. The most popular types include: rocker recliners, wall huggers, and lift chairs.

Rocker Recliners

A rocker recliner does just as its name suggests: it rocks and reclines. These recliners are both soothing and comforting. This type is great for mothers because it is relaxing and comfortable for the mother, while the smooth rocking motion puts the baby to sleep. Rocker recliners are also great pieces of furniture to snooze in!

Wall Huggers

Wall huggers are known for taking up less space than other types of recliners, making them a perfect choice for a room with limited space. Wall huggers usually enable the person to site more upward, making it easier for them to get in and out of the chair. There is much less movement involved in a wall hugger, making them great for your posture, or people with physical ailments like back or knee problems.

Lift Chairs

Lift chairs are considered to be the best chair for people with physical disabilities such as back issues, knee issues, or other physical problems. A lift chair is typically recommended by a doctor to help people with these sorts of issues. They allow the individual to get in and out of the chair with minimal effort or strain by lifting forward so the person doesn't have to use their knees or any part of their body to try to get up. Lift chairs come in a wide range of shapes and sizes, making them suitable for many different physical needs and capabilities.

The Comfort Test

Now that you've run through the basics of choosing a recliner, it's time to go over what may possibly be the most important aspect: the comfort test.

It is, of course, very important to choose a recliner that is both useful and comfortable. You want to make sure that you choose a recliner that leaves you feeling relaxed and comfortable when you sit in it. In order to choose the best recliner with comfort in mind, you have to do some testing for yourself. Take your time looking, feeling, and sitting on the recliners you like. Make sure it reclines comfortably, but is also comfortable upright. Everyone has a different feel for comfort, so take your time in choosing the one that is best for you.

After a C-Section (4 days) what positions is it safe to sleep in? How did you sleep once you were at home?

In the hospital I slept semi- reclining. This is not an option at home. We do not have a recliner. When I lay on my side or back, I feel slight pain and alot of pulling on my incision. I am afraid to lay on my belly!

I had the c-section 4 days ago.

Thanks!

Any position is safe. I slept on my belly each time. (had 3 of them) I was more comfortable than I had been in months and I also felt relief from the pain because there was a firm pressure, much like holding a pillow there.
I had problems laying on my back and was sick of laying on my sides.

I hope I helped a little. Don't worry about your incision. It will be okay.

Good Luck!
