How to get used to my orthotic inserts?
I suffered a foot injury this past summer, and after all was said and done, a pair of custom inserts were made for me. I received them at the end of December, and was told to do the gradual increase by one hour each day to get used to them.
My predicament is that, as with most inserts, I can only wear them with running shoes and unfortunately I can't always wear those type of shoes to work. Now, when I start wearing the inserts again, my foot gets sore again.
I know I'm not going about this the right way and that I really just need to get used to them, but the not being able to wear them 7 days a week it causing problems. Any suggestions? Thank you!
P.S. It should be said that I'm an avid runner and I want to get back into it so, so badly. My arch injury will just repeat itself, so the docs say, unless I correct the way I walk with the inserts. Help!

I don't know if this is possible (or recommended) but if you can't get in to see the orthopedic surgeon for weeks, could you see a pedorthist? He/she could probably give you exercises and advice to help with the pain. I had a fantastic experience with a pedorthist recently for a minor foot issue and she gave me some exercises to help, along with generic orthotics that she customized a bit for me.
