Pave Ring with no cleaning slots on back of band?

I am looking at a diamond pave wedding set at a jewelry store. The underside of the bands don't have any slots so you can clean the back side of the diamonds its just solid gold. Would it be a mistake to buy this ring? Will i be able to clean it just from the top and sides or is it going to look dirty all the time?

Compression Bandages and Their Use

A bandage is a material that supports the body and allows it to heal itself. A compression bandage is a little different from the ordinary bandage as it is used to apply pressure to the area that is healing. The pressure thus applied performs a number of functions. It prevents swelling and edema. It increases blood circulation and allows the patient to manage their condition better.

Compression bandages are of two kinds.

Short stretch compression bandages: These bandages are commonly worn on the limbs, like the fingers and areas of the leg. They are generally used to treat venous ulcers, lymphedema, leg ulceration and even small wounds. Short stretch compression bandages have a property that allows them to shorten around the area, thus applying consistent pressure. Since the bandage does not exert increased pressure during periods of inactivity (which can lead to the accumulation of fluids in the area of application), these bandages are well suited for long term healing. What’s more, the design of these compression bandages is such that they resist pressure that is applied when an internal muscle contracts or moves. So, these ban adages can be worn even when the patient is asleep, though this is not always recommended.

Long stretch compression bandages: As the name suggests, these bandages can be applied over large areas, like a portion of the limb. These bandages apply pressure over the area but have a high resting pressure. Therefore, it is necessary for patients to remove these bandages when the body is at rest. Long stretch compression bandages are so called because they can be stretched to almost three times their size. These bandages are an important part of the healing process in many conditions like Complex Physical Therapy, venous leg ulceration and lymphoedema. Patients who need to use long stretch compression bandages while they are recovering from a condition need to take care that the compression bandages come off at night because these bandages become too tight to allow comfortable sleep.

How should I treat my ankle if there's no swelling?

I fell backwards off of a step stool yesterday and landed on my shin and ankle. It was very awkward since I slid sideways on my heel before my ankle hit the ground, and since then my ankle has been achy. It gets worse if I walk on it, and my shoes are not very comfortable or supportive right now because I work in an office. It seems like it should be a sprained ankle, but there's no swelling, so I'm not sure if I should treat it as such. In particular, is compression/wrapping still advisable?

Things You Should Know When Choosing A Chiropractor

Finding the right chiropractor to suit your individual needs can be a difficult task, particularly if you have never been to a chiropractor before. There are many different chiropractic treatment techniques as well as different philosophies and approaches to case management. Sadly, some new chiropractic patients are dipleased with their initial chiropractic experience because they chose a chiropractor whose approach was not consistent with the patient's wants and expectations. For those who have a bad first experience with chiropractic, there is a tendency to assume that all chiropractic treatment is the same and they may decide never to try chiropractic care again. This is a shame, because many people who purposefully avoid chiropractic care could get tremendous health benefits from the right kind of chiropractic - oftentimes far superior to the results that can be achieved with any other type of treatment.

To find the right chiropractor, there are some simple steps that the individual can take to dramatically improve the chances of having a good experience and good clinical outcome. It may actually be easier to begin with discussing the things not to do when searching for a chiropractor.

What many people do when they first decide to try a chiropractor is they look in some sort of directory, such as the yellow pages, their insurance provider list, or they search online for the closest chiropractor. Because those new to chiropractic don't realize the vast differences in technique and patient management philosophies among chiropractors, the initial choice of a chiropractor usually comes down to considerations such as location, insurance coverage, and cost per visit. In actuality, these are probably the least important considerations overall in determining whether a given chiropractor is going to be a good choice for a given individual.

Probably the most important consideration when choosing a chiropractor is the treatment methods he or she uses. The main treatment procedure that sets chiropractors apart from other health care providers is the "spinal adjustment", also called "spinal manipulation", and this can be performed through many different methods. Some chiropractic techniques are somewhat forceful and produce cracking noises from the joints, while other techniques are very gentle and may be performed with an instrument that "taps" lightly on the joints, or may simply use wedges to reposition the body to allow gravity to adjust the joints. There are also techniques that are somewhere in between in their level of force that use special "drop-adjusting" tables that have sections that drop down slightly when the adjustment is performed to "bump" the joints into motion / alignment.

The forceful manual techniques may produce some brief discomfort, and they are generally not a good approach for patients with fragile bones (such as from osteoporosis), or for those patients who are fearful and have difficulty relaxing for the treatment. Even so, when appropriate, these methods tend to provide faster relief of pain and other symptoms than the low-force methods. A chiropractor who is experienced with manual adusting techniques (such as Diversified or Gonstead technique) is often a good choice for younger, generally healthy patients who are not afraid of feeling and hearing their joints pop. Older patients and those who are anxious about the treatment will typically find that a chiropractor who uses a low-force method (such as Pro-Adjuster, Activator, or Sacro-Occipital Technique) or a medium-force method (such as the Thompson drop-table method) a better choice.

In addition to the spinal adjusting technique, chiropractors may offer a variety of other treatment methods, such as electrical muscle stimulation, ultrasound, massage, and rehabilitative exercise. Depending on the methods used, the total treatment time and cost per visit can vary dramatically from one chiropractor to another. While longer visits do not always translate into better results, in many cases, a chiropractor who spends more time per visit will require fewer visits. This can be a big consideration for both time and out of pocket expense.

Another important thing to consider is the chiropractor's case management style. Some chiropractors focus on just providing symptomatic relief, while other chiropractors recommend rehabilitative treatment, and others promote long-term corrective and preventive treatment to correct and maintain skeletal alignment as much as possible. These different approaches to case management can translate to considerable differences in the duration and frequency of treatment and the related out of pocket financial cost of care.

So, before you choose a chiropractor, it is strongly suggested that you take the time to consider what your goal of treatment is. You need o decide whether you are dedicated enough to invest the necessary time and money to do long-term corrective and preventive care, or whether you simply want a doctor who is willing to provide "patch" care to allow you to feel better and get on with your life for the time being. Neither approach is wrong or right, it just depends on what your needs and desires are at this particular point in your life.

Once you have a good idea of what you are looking for in terms of treatment methods and your goal for the duration and outcome of your treatment, you are much better prepared to interview and choose a chiropractor who is right for you. At this stage, it is suggested that you phone or visit at least a few chiropractors before you choose to go forward with the initial evaluation. The majority of chiropractors will speak with you be phone or meet with you for a free consultation in person. While it does take some time and work to choose the right chiropractor, the results of making a careful selection can be well worth the effort.

I am suffering from bad facet joints and a very painful right sided sacro-iliac joint. Cervical Herniated Disc - Treatment Options

There are 2 main reasons why a cervical herniated disc is not as common as a herniated lumbar disc, they are: firstly, there is not much disc material located in the cervical spine and secondly, there is not much force applied along the cervical spine in comparison to the lumbar section of the spine. A herniated cervical disc nonetheless can be very debilitating and complex to treat.

In most cases of a herniated cervical disc protrude on the side of the spinal passage and will impinge upon the (foramen) nerve root. If the nerve roots space is compromised due to (osteophytes) bone spurs or the collapse of the disc space, the impingement added to the disc can irritate the nerve root thus causing radiculopathy (arm pain). If the nerve root is not compromised, the temporary pain in the arm may be relieved by conventional treatments available from your drug store or pharmacy.

A herniated cervical disc normally requires basic conservative treatments such as rest and light physical rehabilitation, surgery is the last option and reserved only for severe cases of a herniated cervical disc where all other avenues of treatment have been exhausted.

If chronic pain persists for a period longer than two weeks, oral steroids should be taken to combat the symptoms. Oral sedatives can be taken for extreme pain but only for a few days or a maximum of two weeks. Any form of steroid treatment needs to be monitored and regulated via your doctor or physician.

When pain persists, conservative treatments like the following should be taken:

1) Physical Therapy

Physical therapy or exercise to relieve nerve root pressure - Chiropractic treatments to also help relive pressure on the nerve root - Manual traction to help open the cervical foramen

2) Epidural Injection

One may also consider using epidural injections if the pain is not relieved utilizing physical treatments. The pain caused by a herniated cervical disc can be relieved effectively most of the time- however in extreme cases more persistence is required. If in case the initial epidural injection does not work immediately, further injections should be administered every 2 weeks for up to a period of 3 months. If 2 to 3 months of physical and medical treatments fail then surgically removing the disc to relieve the pain may be considered as a viable option.

3)CT Or MRI

A CT scan or MRI can be used to confirm the level of the affected cervical disc herniation. If the scan can verify the severity and complexity of the herniated cervical disc then surgery would be the more desired option.

There are two types of surgery involved in the effective treatment of a herniated cervical disc. They are:

There are 2 types of surgery options. Anterior surgery opens the foramen to give more space to the nerve root. Posterior surgery is advisable for patients with an enlarged disc located in the side of the nerve canal.

Both Anterior and Posterior surgeries have proven to be effective for the majority of sufferers, but as always take the advice of your physician or treating doctor before contemplating surgery for a cervical herniated disc.
