How can I prepare for 9 hours of driving in the middle of no where? (Desert area)?
A friend & I are going to drive through the middle of the desert. It is a 9 hour drive. We want to know what we need to bring, and tips/pointers? We already planned on bringing gas cans w/gas, food. And we've never done this before, he's got a 2 wheel drive,mid size truck. Thank you. please reply asap, i have to get off this computer real soon
Get a GOOD emergency roadside kit, that has flares and those reflective triangles. Make sure you tell someone at your destination (if possible) EXACTLY what route you're taking, so that if you DON'T show up after 12 hours (that gives you time to stop to stretch your legs at least), they are to either alert the police to check to see if you've run off the road or had car trouble in a remote area.
Make sure your cell phone batteries are fully charged. Even if you can't get a signal out there, you CAN be found by emergency services.
Take PLENTY OF WATER or other fluids. DON'T take beer or alcohol. If you break down, beer won't keep you from dying of dehydration.
And by all means, DO NOT PICK UP ANY HITCHHIKERS IN STRANGE AREAS. Even if they're the hottest looking girl or guy you've ever seen.
