Med History

Visit China, Mexico and the Med, All in One Day

It's very easy to see where this beautiful part of the world gets it's name from, Costa Dorada means Golden Coast and that's exactly what you will find on Costa Dorada holidays. Miles and miles of flat golden sands line a coastline that stretches from Barcelona in the north, to Cambrils in the south of the region. Beaches are a huge attraction here, as are the neat, tiny villages, fascinating history and wonderful culture.

The main resort of Salou is home to the PortAventura theme park, where many people spend their entire holidays in the Costa Dorada, wrapped in a world full of excitement and entertainment for the whole family. The park is split into different themes, all taking you to some exotic corner of the world. Imperial China, the Wild West, the jungles of Polynesia, Aztec Mexico and the beauty of the Mediterranean will capture the imagination of the whole family.

Feel the fury of the Dragon Khan roller coaster in Imperial China as you are hurtled along at 110km/h. Fumanchu proves that swings are not just for kids as the mystical wizards spell makes you feel like you are really flying. The children's area is built around the Emperors son and is full of enchanted dragons, colourful balloons and fluttering kites. Join the journey that takes you on the back of a dragon, climbing through nets, across bridges and down the slide out of the dragon's mouth.

Heading into the Wild West the Stampida will test the nerve of even the most hardened of adrenalin junkie's where you can compete with fellow riders to reach safety from the stampeding buffalos first. Tackle the Grand Canyon Rapids or enjoy the wooden carts and horses of the traditional Carousel.

Over in Mexico, the god Hurakan unleashes his anger on unsuspecting tourists as the Hurakan Condor drops you 100m without the chance to even scream… El Diablo will take you down into a mine from where legend has it, many miners have never returned, and the cute Armadillos will take even the youngest explorers on a gentle spinning journey.

Over in the Polynesian Jungle the Tutuki Splash will have your heart pumping faster than the lava that will throw you down the volcano side, the rumbling, deafening roar just adds to the intense fear as you try to make it to the bottom without being engulfed. The Sea Odyssey will take you to the depths of the ocean on a more sedate ride with a few gentle shocks and surprises along the way, or step aboard a canoe and explore the jungle from the safety of your boat.

Over in the Med, Furius Baco and his monkey assistant will invite you onto their ride and then catapult you through their vineyards going from 0 to 135km/h in three seconds… not for the faint hearted. A fishing boat is waiting here to take you on a gentle journey to Imperial China or the locomotive will set you on your way to discovering the rest of the world.

Whichever is your favourite theme, each part has white knuckle rides, gentle thrills and family fun so whatever age you are, you can never be bored. The theme park is only open during the summer months but cheap Costa Dorado holidays are usually found during May and September, as the season begins and ends and when the resorts and theme park will be a little less hectic.
